Light

December 06, 2020

Step outside at the right time
And you may catch the stray corners of light
Appear on the scene like groggy stagehands
Replacing props haphazardly
Illuminating nothing equally
Moving the sun and the clouds
At the same time—
Nobody asked for this thankless job
Powerless to the director’s whining
Rarely giving our star the spotlight
Yet even on the most hopeless days
Summoning one final golden hour
When every little thing receives
Its proper share of eternity
Before clocking out
Perhaps eager for a beer
On the other side of the world
